The Inertia

Yet another wave pool appears to be on the cusp of opening. The Palm Desert, California-based facility DSRT Surf just announced that it is set to set to open its Wavegarden surf lagoon in summer of 2026.

According to a press release from the facility, the opening marks Phase 1 of the facility’s launch. Located between the golf courses at Desert Willow Golf Resort, the 5.5-acre Wavegarden Cove surf lagoon promises to produce up to 1,000 waves per hour. This marks the culmination of a two-year construction process, starting with the facility breaking ground in May of 2024.

“We’re proud to welcome DSRT Surf to Palm Desert,” said Palm Desert Mayor Evan Trubee. “It’s the kind of project that reflects who we are as a city, open to new ideas and always looking for ways to create unique experiences for the people who live here and the folks who come to visit. DSRT Surf adds something you won’t find just anywhere, and it gives people from across Southern California and around the world another great reason to spend time in Palm Desert and enjoy everything our community has to offer.”

The facility’s phase two opening date hasn’t been specified. This includes a luxury hotel, 57 private luxury villas, yoga studio, restaurants, and pickleball courts.

Of course, by now surfers have learned to take any wave pool announcement with a boulder of salt. There have been numerous facilities announced with grand promises of freshwater waves galore, only to wither on the vine. Even the ones that actually do manage to open seem to have constant problems staying operational. However, the fact that DSRT has nearly completed construction seems to be a good sign that there actually may be surf coming to the desert this summer.

More details about the opening will be released later this year.
