Utah, get me two, because Point Break is coming back to theaters. In celebration of the cult classic surf film’s 35th anniversary, Resurgence Media Group, Saga Arts, and Fathom Entertainment are bringing Kathryn Bigelow’s action thriller back to the big screen nationwide.
The return will be a two-day event that goes down August 16 and 19. Fans will be presented with a new 4K restoration, along with an introduction from San Clemente surf icon Matt Archbold, who not only served as the surf double for Patrick Swayze, but also helped teach Reeves, Swayze, Anthony Kiedis and the other cast members to surf for the film. In the introduction, he shares behind-the-scenes stories from the production, along with his own thoughts on the film.
“Few films have built a following as loyal as Point Break’s,” said Shannah Miller, VP of Marketing, Fathom Entertainment. “Thirty-five years after it first hit theaters, this newly restored 4K version gives that devoted following exactly what they’ve been asking for: Bodhi, Johnny Utah and those legendary surfing and skydiving sequences, back where they belong on the big screen.”
