The Inertia

John John Florence is in the midst of an epic family adventure. Along with a few close friends who can meet up with them in whatever far-flung corner of the world he happens to be in, he has been simply taking the time to look around at the world and tasting all the fruits it has to offer.

“Exploring with my family we learned new ways of living, saw new places, found waves for all three of us, and woke up most days just excited to see more, and do it all together,” said Florence when he set out. “It really confirmed for us that this is our dream right now. We’ve decided to continue in 2026 with the goal of hopefully making a full lap of the world. I want to become a better surfer; I want to become the best father I can be and combine it all with nonstop adventure and curiosity.”

In order to do just that, he’s been sailing his boat to and fro across oceans, exploring many of the best parts of the vast planet we call home. It’s the kind of thing most of us only dream about doing, but Florence decided he’d take a bit of time off from the Tour to do… well, to do more important things.

“We’re in a new part of the world!” Florence wrote about his latest update into what he’s been up to. “It’s been fun to learn a new boat and be somewhere that’s a first to all of us. Total contrast to everywhere else we’ve been. Sailing here was really cool, it was all just a flat shallow shelf of the clearest water we’ve ever seen. Close to the islands or sailing between islands it was all 10-feet deep. No barrier reefs or deep-water passes to navigate so it changed the whole feel of exploring somewhere new.”

The new part of the world he’s referring to is the Bahamas, where he and his family explore the local culture and the the local youth brigade’s growing passion for surfing.

“We’re on a completely different side of the world,” says Lauryn Cribb Florence. “A place that none of us have ever been in before.”

As is generally the case when you travel somewhere with an open mind, close family, and a bunch of surfboards, they found a place that will stay with them forever.
