Rio Waida is an extraordinarily good surfer. Before he was on the Championship Tour, Ross Williams called him “the best surfer not on the tour.” It’s widely accepted that he is Bali’s best competitor, and that’s not an easy thing to be.
It’s strange that Indonesia doesn’t have more representation on the tour, because there are more than a few Indonesians who surf just as well or better than some of the CT surfers. Rio Waida, though, is head and shoulders above them. He’s on a different level, and when he’s in form and Bali’s most rippable wave is firing, great things will happen.
“Rio Waida was on hand for some of the best Keramas we’ve seen in a while,” Surfers of Bali wrote on YouTube, “and to no one’s surprise, he was an absolute standout.”
