Gabriel Medina shoots for goal in FIFA 21 video game

Two-time world surfing champion Gabriel Medina has been added to FIFA 21, the world’s best-selling football simulation video game.

The Brazilian surfer is one of the stars – named the Groundbreakers – featured in the game’s new Volta mode.

Medina will appear in the game series that has already sold around 300 million copies worldwide since its debut in 1993.

Volta – meaning “return” in English – is a gaming mode that allows players to compete in street football-style matchups in several locations.

The talented goofy-footer will play alongside F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo, American football quarterback Lamar Jackson, former German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, Canadian fashion model Winnie Harlow, Australia footballer Samantha Kerr, Japanese legend Hidetoshi Nakata, DJ Snake, F1 icon Lewis Hamilton, and French star Zinedine Zidane.

Gabriel Medina is a big fan of football – or soccer, as it is called in the United States – and a well-known Corinthians supporter.

One of the surfer’s best friends is Neymar Jr., the star of the French team Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazilian national football team.

Medina is expected to represent his country in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. He was the first Brazilian to clinch a world surfing title and the only one to win it twice.
