Steph Gilmore picked a great event to pull herself out of an early season drought that had seen her lose her first two opening heats at Bells and Margaret River. Gilmore took out the field in glowing conditions at Snapper Rocks, earning her 34th career Championship Tour victory, which shot her up the women’s rankings from dead last to seventh.
Meanwhile, Ethan Ewing earned his third career CT victory at the Goldy, defeating Connor O’Leary in the final.
The Australian leg has made an early impact on the rankings with Gabriel Medina leaving Oz with the yellow jersey, followed by George Pittar, Miguel Pupo, Ewing, and Samuel Pupo rounding out the top five. Luana Silva in yellow means Brazil owns the top spot in both the men’s and women’s rankings. Gabriela Bryan, Lakey Peterson, Molly Picklum and Caity Simmers make up the rest of the top five for the women.
Next up? The tour continues down under at the New Zealand Pro at Raglan, May 15-25.
