The DSRT Surf hyperbole is in and it seems people are liking the new wave pool in Coachella Valley. Zeke dubbed it the “gnarliest wavepool barrel ever created,” if we’re looking for specifics. But he also flat-out called it “the best wavepool in the world.” John Luff, co-founder and managing partner at Beach Street Holdings, praised the barrel-to-air opportunities the wave produces, saying “I didn’t think a surf pool could have such a powerful spit.” Beach Street Holdings is DSRT Surf’s lead developer so take that with a grain of salt.
But we can also throw “best air section in California” into the pile of praise now, apparently. That assessment came from the Colapinto brothers’ session, who visited the pool on the same trip as Zeke.
Is this the best wave pool in the world? The gnarliest barrel section? The best air section in California? Or is it just free pool waves for a bunch of pro bros? The pool isn’t open to the public quite yet, so the hyperbole is purely promotional at this point, and it just may be sincere praise for all we know.
It’s worth pointing out that the hype around new wave pools over the past decade has typically stuck. By that I mean the praise of the waves themselves has been consistent. Some pools are built and promoted as massive event spaces with surfing as a centerpiece for music festivals, concerts, and parties, while others have become destinations for technical, high-performance surfing. If the trend holds up at DSRT Surf, it looks like this will be a pool serious surfers rave about.
