Chairlifts are a routine ski resort convenience that can quickly turn into a death trap. On Thursday, multiple people were injured at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl in Oregon, when a chairlift malfunction sent them plummeting to the ground below.
According to local news outlet KPTV, Hoodland Fire District said crews were dispatched around 9:35 a.m., after two workers were injured when they fell from a chairlift basket at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl East. Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including Clackamas Fire, American Medical Response, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Forest Service, Life Flight and Mt. Hood Ski Bowl personnel
The exact distance of the fall is still unknown, but the remote location of the accident required the use of special equipment such as ATVs and air medical resources. Once the workers were rescued, they were transported by medical helicopter to Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), according to ABC.
As of Thursday afternoon, the incident remains active, with authorities saying that more information will be released as it becomes available.
