Funny gal Amy Schumer forced to endure dangerous back surgery after suffering nasty surf injury

Makaha shines again.

Sometimes, I find myself confused about where notable celebrities choose to live. The famous comedian Dave Chappelle, for example, calling Yellow Springs, Ohio home. Or John Travolta picking Ocala in the weird middle part of Florida. I am not at all confused by Jason Momoa’s preferred domain, though, the proud Hawaiian islands.

The 46-year-old is currently starring in Apple TV’s Chief of War, a historical drama based on the true events surrounding the unification of the aforementioned archipelago in the latter part of the 1700s. Momoa was born in Honolulu and though spent his childhood in Iowa, returned to “The Gathering Place” to attend the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.

Well, the well-built and very handsome man could, of course, afford to live anywhere. He could live in Byron Bay, Australia he could live in Baia do Sancho, Brazil and he could live in Huntington Beach, California but, as mentioned, he prefers the islands, calling Oahu home even though spending more time on Kauai. Momoa told Travel + Leisure, “There’s certain foods, there’s the way the water feels for me, the way that the sand feels for me, the way the air smells, how my skin feels here—it’s just a deep connection. It’s where I’m from. It’s where I was born. It’s my culture. It’s a wonderful thing to come home. This is where I’m rooted.”

Very fine, though which beach do you think is his favorite? Oahu, of course, has many nice ones including Waikiki, Pupukea or Kailua. Poipu or Hanalei on Kauai. Though none challenge the mighty Makaha for Momoa.

“My family beach is Makaha,” he continued. “Pretty much everything on the west side is home, but Makaha is probably my favorite beach in the world.”

Surfers, of course, know Makaha as one of the early big wave spots. Wally Froiseth and John Kelly, two pals from Town, are credited with pioneering the spot back in 1937, riding the biggest wave ever recorded, up until that point.

Iconic.

But over to you. What is your favorite beach in the world?

Uppers? Lowers? Middles?

Discuss.
